Londoners find it easier to be active locally than the national average

London Sport

People living in London are more likely to say that being active in their local area feels easy (66%), compared with people elsewhere in the country (57%).

In London, 68% of women and 64% of men say they find it easy to be active in their immediate local area. This compares with a national picture where responses are lower and almost equal, at 59% for men and 58% for women.

Those who are already active are especially likely to feel this way. Nearly three quarters of Londoners who exercise more than once a week (73%) say it is easy for them to be active locally, compared with those who are less active.

When asked what would help more people to be active, respondents highlighted three clear priorities for London:

  • More affordable or accessible sport and leisure facilities (33%, compared with 23% nationally).
  • Better access to public fitness equipment or outdoor gyms (24%, compared with 15% nationally).
  • More green spaces (22%, compared with 17% nationally).
