We aim to make best use of information and create new understanding to help London become the most physically active city in the world. By contributing to and utilising open data to present key information and publish insights, our partners will have access to the knowledge that will support them in using insight to increase their impact.
What is open data?
Open data is data that anyone can access, use or share without restrictions from copyright, patents or other mechanisms of control.
It impacts upon everyone and allows us to improve upon how we share information and encourage innovation across all sectors for the benefit of communities. Through it we can advance healthcare services, government transparency, travel options and of course grow participation in physical activity and sport.
To find out more about what open data is, please take a look at the Open Data Institute website.
Why is it important to the physical activity and sport sector?
London Sport is using rich data to prioritise local and capital-wide strategic decision making, including informing decisions on how, and where, to focus funding and identifying key target groups in the organisation’s vision of making London the most physically active city in the world.
We would like to encourage partners, deliverers and the physical activity sector as a whole to coordinate data efforts in order to create a bigger, more sustainable market for sport and trigger a long-term shift in participation levels across the capital. This platform provides that opportunity by demonstrating how much we achieve by opening up data and approaching its findings with the same rigour that you would see in the commercial world.
We want this platform to be a resource for everybody involved with physical activity and sport in London; we will be making more data, and more opportunities, available in the months to follow and encourage all organisations involved in physical activity and sport in the capital to consider how data could help us grow the sector, collaboratively.
How can you get involved?
Join the open data movement by working with us to disseminate knowledge through data and create a bigger and more sustainable market for physical activity and sport.
