State of Life: Value of activities in under-served communities

London Sport

State of Life, working with StreetGames have shared findings from their work to understand the social value of activities provided to children and young people in low-income and under-served areas.

  • CYP who face more inequalities tend to be less active than their peers from other backgrounds
  • They also appear to gain less benefit (e.g. enjoyment) from increasing their activity levels
  • They estimate that the social cost of inequality for young people is around £1.4 billion each year
  • There was also evidence that wellbeing may continue to increase with sustained participation
