Safe Sport requires a consistent approach and focus on prevention

London Sport

The first phase of the Safe Sport report is based on independent consultation with 149 organisations, plus survivor-informed interviews.

They conclude that ensuring sport is safe across the UK would include:

  • Commitment from Sports Councils and NGB leaders to prioritise resources to prevent harm, rather than being disproportionately consumed by reacting to cases of harm.
  • Central leadership to drive forward a step change in the way safe sport is being delivered across the UK
  • comprehensive strategy comprising a single framework, standardised codes of practice, and the ability to hold the sector to account which is co-created with stakeholders
  • trusted, independent and consistent complaints and resolution function.

The next phase of the Safe Sport project will be delivered by March 2026.
