The new Playing Fields Protection Project report from London Sport and KKP has found:
- Protecting fields at risk in London will require engagement and commitment from combinations (or all) of the Greater London Authority, London boroughs, London Sport, Sport England, Parks for London, National Governing Bodies, the London Playing Field Foundation, clubs, leagues, community organisations and other key agencies.
- Protections for London’s 1,804 playing field sites are proving insufficient. 36 sites are now known to be at risk, up from around 12 at the start of the project, and the true figure is likely to be higher.
The report makes recommendations covering:
- Advocacy and pitch protection
- The new London Plan
- London Borough Local Plans
- Playing fields and outdoors sports need for assessments / strategies
- Investment
- NGBs
- State schools-based provision
- Independent school and University provision
- Dormant and derelict sites
- Critical and at risk sites
- Environmental factors
- Taking a different approach to artificial turf pitch development in London
If you are aware of a site at risk in London then you can make us aware, and learn more about next steps, using the new Early Warning System.
