Open parks matter most for physical activity in London

London Sport

Open parks stand out as the most valued spaces for being active in London.

More than three quarters of London respondents (78%) say that people take part in sport or physical activity in open parks. Community centres (57%) and schools (55%) follow closely behind.

While the national picture shows a similar pattern, usage is noticeably lower. Across the UK, 59% cite open parks, 41% community centres, and 40% schools.

Open parks appear to play a vital role because they are free, flexible, and easy to access. Unlike more formal venues, they do not require booking, payment, or commitment, making them better suited to spontaneous activity and a wide range of needs.
