London: Powerful, Prosperous and Rapidly Changing

London Sport

Trajectory Partnership’s analysis of London reveals a capital that continues to dominate the UK economically and politically, but it is undergoing major demographic and social shifts.

These shifts are already reshaping who participates in sport, where demand lies, and how strategies must adapt.

London’s economy is strong but access to opportunity isn’t:

  • London has 13% of the UK’s population, employs 18% of the workforce, and generates 23% of UK GDP
  • Inequality is high, boroughs with economic power sit alongside those with some of the UK’s lowest physical activity levels
  • Implication: Facility access and affordability remain uneven. Investment must target underserved areas, not just economic hubs

Inner Londoners are happier (46% high life satisfaction vs 37% for UK), more trusting, and open to change, and have lower concern about NHS healthcare (25% vs 45%).
