According to the 2025 ‘UK Giving Report’ by Charities Aid Foundation:
- At a UK level, most people (83%) did something charitable or engaged with civil society in the past 12 months. The most common actions were:
- Donated money to charity (50%)
- Given goods to charity (49%)
- Bought something at a charity shop (41%)
- Signed a petition (38%)
- Donations rates have decreased across all age groups, but particularly with 16-24 year-olds where only 36% donated or sponsored in the past 12 months, a decline of around a third since 2017. London is the first and only region where fewer than half of people donate to charity.
- Reasons for not donating include affordability, lack of trust, and a lack of interest.
- £15.4 billion was donated to charity last year. Of this:
- Health charities received the most in donations from the public (14% in total, around £2.2 billion).
- Sports and recreation charities received the 2% of donations, around £282 million.
