Trust for London have population density in their latest update to London’s Geography and Population.
Headlines:
- London overall has 5,782 residents per square kilometer.
- London’s figure is double the average of other major English cities (Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Bradford and Liverpool), who average 2,399 residents per square kilometer.
- The Central London population density is higher still, at 11,189 people per square kilometer.
The figure come from analysis of ONS Census data. This also tells us that the population density for England overall is 434 people per square kilometer (one-fourteenth the density of London).
All of the 20 most densely populated local authority areas in England are boroughs in London. The highest is Tower Hamlets at 15,695 residents per square kilometer.
