GM Active and State of Life have collaborated to bring together robust information around ‘Fat Pills vs Fit Pills’.
‘Fat Pills’ are the semaglutides known as GLP-1s, Wegovy, Ozempic and Mounjaro. They cost around £3k per patient per year and NICE say there is no evidence they are effective as a standalone treatment.
‘Fit Pills’ are physical activity.
They found:
- Up to 15% of body weight can be shed.
- There is a lack of evidence that the pills would continue to work after an initial 2 years in intensive weight management.
- After stopping the pills, users can return to pre-pill weight 4 times faster than following a diet.
- Side effects are common (reported by more than 1-in-10 users) – including sickness, headaches, constipation, diarrhoea, weakness (additional drugs are being prescribed to combat muscle loss).
