Three in four adults regularly use the outdoors to get active, making it Britain's favourite type of physical activity. Outdoor recreation encompasses a wide variety of activities, from walking to skydiving: activities with different motivations but which ultimately lead to enjoyment. Outdoor recreation contributes largely to the visitor economy, income which rural areas largely rely on. Furthermore, the industry creates a range of jobs for Governing Bodies, Event Organisers, Landowners, Retailers and Manufacturers, as well as skill development for the large number of volunteers across the sector.  Lastly, outdoor recreation provides the opportunity for more people to achieve an active lifestyle, promoting a healthy nation, reducing the number of working days lost and reducing direct cost to the NHS.
