
How Active Are Londoners?
The latest Active Lives data shows that Londoners overall are slightly more active than the national average – 64.6% of adults across the capital get the recommended 150+ minutes of activity per week, compared to 63.7% across England.
The activity level has not changed by much over all but there have been small shifts in some boroughs.
Among our priority boroughs:
- Lambeth (4th most active borough, with 75%) and Southwark (73%) stand out as the most active
- Barking & Dagenham (30th, with 55%) and Brent (57%) have the lowest rates of activity
When it comes to how people are staying active:
- Fitness classes are the nation’s most popular activity (14%), followed closely by gym sessions (13%)
- The most popular method of exercise in London is fitness class (17%) followed by Gym (15%) then football with (6%)
- Westminster has seen a 5% rise in fitness class attendance in the past year
- Emerging sports like padel tennis are gaining attention, though long-term data is still limited
