Trust for London’s analysis of London’s most deprived neighbourhoods reveals which have been ‘gentrified’ (when the character of an area changes because wealthier people move in and existing residents are pushed out) between 2012 and 2020.
The analysis is based on increases in income.
The impacts are:
- Average incomes increase by +11% (after inflation). The rest of London was about +1%.
- A drop in their Black population and fewer families with children.
- Proportion of residents living in social housing drop.
- The average house became 2.5 times more expensive. Compared to 2 times more expensive in the rest of London.
