This research considers gender differences in attitudes, aspirations and participation in sport and physical activity. It also provides insight into viewership of women’s football by both boys and girls, as well as reasons for not watching. Furthermore it seeks to understand feelings towards the Women’s World Cup and if there is any influence on numbers of girls and boys dreaming of becoming top athletes. Another finding is girls see more barriers and inequalities in grassroots sport compared to boys. Girls often feel they are judged or not good enough when it come to sports participation. They want to see greater gender equality in sport, as well as diversity and visibility for women’s sport. Both genders would like more opportunities both in and out of school. Importantly regardless of gender, these sessions should be tailored according to the specific needs of girls and boys, there is no one size fits all.
