Volunteers have always played a vital part in the sports and physical activity sector, and without them most community sport wouldn’t happen. The Government's strategy, Sporting Future, highlights the benefits of volunteering to the individual and the nation, and has encouraged Sport England to examine the experience of volunteering more closely.

Volunteers in sport enjoy many of the benefits associated with participating in physical activity. Furthermore, their time, energy and expertise also benefits those playing the sport. This strategy aims to harness and increase the dual benefit of volunteering, which will play a vital part in committment to grassroots sport and physical activity in England. The document discusses Sport England's wider strategy for volunteering, including how to encourage new volunteers and supporting people who already volunteer.
