This report was produced in reaction to data suggesting that the majority of disabled people state that their health or disability prevents them from participating in physical activity. In order to gain insight into disabled peoples' perceptions of sport, qualitative market research was conducted to gain greater understanding of the barriers to taking part, and identify similarities and differences across people with different impairments. The findings suggest that barriers can be grouped into psychological, logistical and behavioural categories, with psychological barriers being the most influential. The document also explores the benefits to disabled people being active and possible changes to overcome existing barriers.
