The FA ambassador programme, in which female football players share their stories and inspiration is an established programme. This research assesses the impact of player appearances on growing female participation in football, whilst also exploring factors that cause women to play sport.

Following discussions with girls, players and organisers, it was observed that the appearance programme is a positve experience that provides inspirational role models and emphasises that it is possible for girls to experience success in football. However, the real influencers for girls in school and community settings are those they see on a regular basis and have a strong relationship with. As a result, The FA is implementing programme monitoring, greater engagement and player research, whilst also prioritising regular training, personalised materials and networks to increase awareness of opportunities beyond the ambassador visit.
