Latest figures from the National Child Measurement Programme reveal that the year on year increase in Year 6 children’s body mass index continues. This is in contrast with a significant downward trend in the prevalence of obesity among Reception boys in the period 2006/07 to 2015/16. The inequality gap in overweight, obese and excess weight categories is increasing across the country for all age groups. The new report shows the trends in body mass index in Reception and Year 6 children from 2005/06 to 2015/16 measured across England in the National Child Measurement Programme.
