Active Design is an innovative set of design guidelines to get more people moving through suitable design and layout. Decisions made through the planning system often provide the opportunity to create the right environment to help people get more active, more often. Active Design provides practical guidance and principles that can be used in the day to day work of planners, urban designers , developers and health professionals. Active Design is a key guidance document intended to help unify health, design and planning by promoting the right conditions and environments for individuals and communities to lead active and healthy lifestyles. It contains ten Active Design Principles that have been developed to inspire and inform the design and layout of cities, towns, villages, neighbourhoods, buildings, streets and open spaces, to promote sport and physical activity and active lifestyles.
